Mission Beach is basically known for the great weather and horribly- weathered vacation rentals. I visit San Diego every summer with my family and have never been that impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities, but it is part of the charm. I don't blame San Diego Sunset Vacation Rentals for this problem, but I don't recommend using them if you're looking for a clean, new, or modern vacation rental. Review added by LoveitorHateit

Arrived at the cottage around mid, welcomed by smell of old mildew, 100 insects flying around and miserably dirty carpet. As a person who has Athma, I could not stand in the room. We complained about the room to receptionist 1st thing in the morning. They were cold and even told us it is because we paid for a cheap room. I was simply surprised with their big enough attitude to say "Oh, mildew smell comes with cheap room that you paid for." Then, they should list "smell of mildew may exist in the propery on the website. I am serious. Our family vacation became a nightmare experience because of this company. We end up staying in the different hotel from next day. Review added by Unhappy customer

   When I arrived the following items were in disrepair or needed attention:• The unit was dirty. The floors in particular looked as if nobody had swept them. There were bits of debris around and the living room throw carpet had visible dirt and grime above and beyond some sand, which I would expect.• There were crumbs in the couch bed, within the sheets that were on it.• One leg off the living room table was falling off.• The shelf in the little white stand in the second bedroom was missing pegs so could not be hung.• The shelf in the bathroom was broken.• The barbeque was shoved on the side of the house where it could not be used due to lack of space to open the lid or stand in front of it. The knobs on the front were nearly impossible to turn.• The beds in the second bedroom were arranged in such a way that neither the closet nor the bathroom door could be opened.I reported the above items upon arrival. A person came and put new sheets on the bed but did no other cleaning. A repair person came, said he could not fix any of the above items, moved the BBQ to the patio, wiggled the stuck knobs a bit, cleaned the BBQ a little, and left.In the end, my children and I had to clean the apartment as we had an infant and toddler with us that would likely get sick from the gunk on the floor.During our stay I discovered the following additional items:• The bed in the main bedroom turned out to be a boxspring with no mattress on top!!!• There was no dresser in either bedroom, nor any place to put suitcases or clothes.• The living room lights were burnt out.• Our normal sized 4-door sedan would not fit in the garage. You website advertised that oversized cars don’t fit, but our car is not oversized at all.• The couch bed was at a steep angle for sleeping.• When we were done using the BBQ, we could not turn it off as the knobs were stuck. We ended out turning off the gas at the propane canister and closing the knobs the next day when the BBQ had cooled and we could manhandle them more. This is a safety hazard that should be address immediately.I felt that the front desk was no help in fixing anything, and they offered nothing in compensation. I would not recommend renting from this business!!!!
